Watawala Plantations Limited

Watwala Plantations Limited (WPL) is a pioneer tea plantation and marketing company in Sri Lanka. The public quoted company, is a joint venture with the world famous TATA Group, which owns UK's No.1 tea brand "Tetley".

WPL manages 16 of the finest tea gardens in the island, spreading across 12,500 hectares of land and employing 15,000 people.

The total extent of the Company is 12,443 Ha., of which 5,636 Ha.,(45%) is planted in Tea, 1,423 Ha.,(11%) in Rubber and 2,129 Ha., (17%) with Oil Palm. The remaining extent of 3,253 Ha., (26%) is under cultivation or under grass for future replanting with Tea.

Tea

Watawala Plantations have the distinct advantage of producing annually over 9 million Kg's of prime Sri Lankan teas in it's own plantations.Our teas are being sought after in the most discerning markets world wide.We have 5,637 Hectares of planted Tea ranging from the celebrated Dimbula high grown area and other prime marks, there is 16 Tea Estates of repute.

Watawala Plantations produces 2% of total tea production in Sri Lanka. Tea is grown across all elevations. It is directly exported by passing the auction system.

Rubber

Watawala Plantations produce 1 million Kg's per Annum of rubber in Sri Lanka .NAKIADENIYA, TALANGAHA & HOMADOLA are the rubber producing estates of Watawala Plantations of which , NAKIADENIYA is the largest Rubber factory in Sri Lanka. TPC1 X & SOLE CREPE are the varieties exported across the world from Watawala Plantations.


Oil Palm

CRUDE PALM OIL is extracted from Estates in the southern region of Sri Lanka. Watawala Plantations produce 7 million kg's per annum of crude palm oil. NAKIADENIYA is the only Crude Palm Oil producing factory in Sri Lanka.
